Food Festival in Forodhani - ….a taste of Zanzibar

Farid Himid, a local cultural expert has organised another food festival where local vendors and hotels in Zanzibar share their signature dishes with each other and the general public. This event will be called "The Taste of Zanzibar" and will be held at Forodani Park in Stonetown on July 25th and 26th between 5pm and 10pm. There is a one off payment of 50,000tsh to be involved and show off your cuisine. You will need to bring a table and your own equipment etc. Organic, local dishes are preferred. You are all encouraged to participate in this local initiative - the last one was a big success. See letter attached for more information

Did you Spot Brian May of Queen in Zanzibar?

Brian May made a personal homage to visit the birthplace of Freddie Mercury who was the lead singer in the internationally famed British band Queen. He stayed in a member's hotel for three nights and kept a very low profile.

Zanzibar Film Festival 2019

The Zanzibar Film Festival 2019is just around the corner and the theme is A NEW DAWN and a new improved ZIFF. You can get more information on their website about sponsorship, the films and contacts for asking questions http://www.ziff2019.org alternatively email the office on ziff@ziff.or.tz.

Bring your staff and get involved with the sporting and cultural event of the year, the aim is to celebrate gender equality through women's empowerment. See attachment below and get involved, ZATI will also be sponsoring the ZIFF Dhow race will you? The Zanzi-Half Marathon in conjunction with ZIFF will involve teams from a variety of hotels and investors in tourism. The website http://zanzihalf.co.tz/ has up to date information. You can still sign up your team until June 24th.


Best Dialogue sponsored advocacy comes to an end.

Best Dialogue, sponsored by the Danish Government, have supported advocacy in Zanzibar for many years and ZATI was the recipient of funds to engage consultants in producing policy brief papers to lobby the government. The exit meeting was held at our member hotel, Seacliff Resort and Spa's, conference room on June 18th. The director and Vice Chairman, Julia Bishop, attended and Julia gave an engaging speech about a selection of the projects that ZATI has tackled; for example 'Advocating for Judiciary Reforms in 2015; Tourism Sector Skills Gap in 2016; the issues of 'Multiple Taxation' demands on the tourism sector in 2017 and the 'Skills Development Levy' which pushes for appropriate use of the levy and importance of the involvement of the private sector to have their needs met. Julia also shared that the previous ZATI 'Destination Marketing' project will be used as an initial document for the new Zanzibar Branding Committee, instigated by the Minister of Tourism recently
